In the dawn of urban civilization, the Nagarkanda area was a swamp. In the course of time, the area became habitable at one time. Since then Nagarkanda came under administrative administration. During the British rule, the first administrative police station was touched in Ainpur village under Laskardia union of present Nagarkanda upazila. Due to the unawareness of the local people and the continuous erosion of the river, the relocation of the police station headquarters became inevitable. The then fourteen Rashi zamindars donated land for the present Nagarkanda Thana headquarters next to the Kachari of their own rent collection for their administrative convenience. At that time the city of Faridpur was about to be swallowed up by the severe erosion of the Padma. Although it was not implemented later. Probably, this is the origin of the name Nagarkanda as the edge of the city or Kanda.
